Brain Donation

Brain donation is an opportunity for service members and their loved ones to help further research and protect future generations of military personnel.

If you would like to register for brain donation, or have any questions about the process, please contact the CENC Brain Donation Center:

Telephone: (857) 364-5694
Email: cencboston@va.gov

Eligibility

Any service member, either active duty or retired, who has experienced a traumatic brain injury may register for brain donation. Tours of duty in any theater are welcome to participate.

Arrangement

Prior to death, a signed consent form is all that is required to participate in the program.

After death, the donation is a simple and comfortable process. The legally authorized representative (usually, the next-of-kin) will again give consent to donate.

Cost

The CENC-VA TBI Brain Tissue Repository team will cover all expenses involved in brain donation. Funeral expenses remain the responsibility of the loved ones.

The Chronic Effects of Neurotrauma Consortium is jointly funded by the Department of Defense (award # W81XWH-13-2-0095) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (award #’s I01 CX001135, I01 CX001246, I01 RX001774, I01 RX001135, I01 RX002076, I01 RX001880, I01 RX002172, I01 RX002173, I01 RX002171, I01 RX002174, and I01 RX002170) / Created by VCU University Relations
